Lighttpd + PHP + MySQL + eAccelerator = WordPress on steroids

Published by abesh under Blogging,Software,Technical

Introduction

I recently shifted my blog from Dreamhost to Mosso. Dreamhost was constantly throwing up out of memory errors for my blog and there was no quick way to detect why other than disabling all my plugins and enabling them one by one. That is one route I did not want to take. I was on the lookout for a VPS and was on the verge of settling on Slicehost when Craig suggested I give Mosso a go as it provided a better value for me with their pay as you go bandwidth and secondly it was owned by the same company that owns Slicehost, Rackspace. I finally settled for a 256MB/10GB CloudServer from Mosso.

Implementing and Configuring SAP MII – The Book

Published by abesh under Software,Technical

It was early last year when Dipankar and I were approached by SAP Press to author a book on SAP MII 12.0.

From there, it has been a very enriching journey for both of us as we discovered that we had a lot more to learn, both about SAP MII as well as the art of writing a book.

Tour de Flex : Your Desktop Guide to the world of RIAs

Published by abesh under Software,Technical

Tour de Flex is like mana from heaven for newbie developers who want to know what Adobe Flex & AIR are capable of.  It is an application built with Adobe AIR which is basically a component browser which showcases the Flex components with over 200 examples, source code and links to the relevant documentation.

What’s more, is that it is also available as an Eclipse plugin which enables you to lookup these examples and source code directly from the Eclipse IDE. This is specifically useful if you are using Adobe FlexBuilder to create your Flex projects.

ESME at DemoJam : SAP TechEd Bangalore 2008

As many of you would know that I have had to dissociate myself from the ESME for personal reasons. However I had a chance to be back with the team and honored when I was provided with an opportunity to present ESME at DemoJam, SAP TechEd Bangalore along with Mrinal, a friend and a ESME member. DemoJam took place on the 12th of November, 2008.

The video shows us on the DemoJam stage with Craig hosting the event.

Yay ! My WP plugins in the official WP repository…

Published by abesh under Blogging,Software,Technical

It just needed some prodding from Craig Cmehil (as always) and I’ve just uploaded two of my plugins to the official wordpress repository. This blog also serves to be a shout out to my friend Oliver Kohl whom I’ve been constantly pestering to upload his fantastic SDN Contibutor plugin to the official wordpress repository. It’s a damn good plugin and he should upload it to the plugin directory to let everyone use his piece of work.

The submission process is a breeze which starts with the filling of a submission form and waiting for your submission to get approved. Once it does, (it usually takes about a day), you get access to a subversion repository where you upload your plugin files and a readme.txt and you are done.

<mx:DevSummit/> : Register and grab your copy of a free FlexBuilder 3 License

I heard about mx:Devsummit on Twitter when Mrinal tweeted about it and then the details from Raghu’s Blog. A RIA Developer Summit from Adobe is exciting enough but the icing on the cake are the free Adobe Flex Builder 3 licenses that go out to every participant, how cool :)

From the mailer that Raghu sent me:

Singleton Classes in Actionscript 3.0

Published by abesh under Software,Technical

Singleton Classes are based on the Singleton Design Pattern and have a single instance of the class throughout the application. When would one need a singleton class ? A simple example would be a database manager class which would instantiate a connection to the database at the application initialization and have methods for data manipulation of the database tables. In such a case multiple instances of this class is not required and will end up consuming memory and other issues.

How does one implement a Singleton Class ?

Published by abesh under Software,Technical

Introduction

Friday is Chinposin Day. If the previous line did not make any sense to you, then it’s time you read my good friend Blag‘s blog on Chinposin.

What started off as an one off experiment is growing into a full fledged avatar management platform with more and more functionality being added every day. With a avatar timeline per user along with it’s feed, Tiltviewer and many more upcoming features all of which can be found on the Chinposin Blog, this was a perfect platform to develope my first WordPress Widget.
